Young children need love and care, sufficient nutrition, a stimulating environment and access to services that enable them to grow and thrive. KYB partners with municipalities and provinces to help them review their own ECD policies and then supports them to effectively play both a developmental and a regulatory role in the creation and delivery of these vital building blocks for a child’s future success.
We place children at the heart of every programme, so the first step in every partnership is a comprehensive ECD audit of the municipal area, finding where the children are. It also tells us what ECD practitioners and services (if any) exist and what municipal resources there are. This draws an accurate picture of what is needed, areas of priority, and where opportunities and challenges lie.
KYB has been active in the field of ECD for over a decade, working with small peri-urban local municipalities to large metros. Our key skills are as:
Creating an ecosystem that joins the dots between partners and across sectors is key to the ability to deliver ECD on a systemic level. KYB works with municipalities and provinces to catalyse and enable the delivery of quality ECD to an expanded number of children so that they can enter school ready to thrive. The three enabling mechanisms of the KYB ECD solution are:
KYB Change Management catalyses and drives system-wide change within provincial, municipal and community structures, to enabling municipal compliance and DSD registration of ECD sites which unlocks sustainable government funding and ultimately leads to increased access and improved quality ECD for children.
The KYB Hub & Spoke Model is a KYB-designed methodology that expands access to quality, affordable early learning opportunities. It enables government funding to flow from registered entities to community or non-centre based ECD’s.
KYB ECD Enterprise Incubator provides opportunity for entrepreneurs to kick start, stabilise and grow their ECD micro-enterprises through private sector investment. Click here to find out more.
The KYB Programme has already proven to be a success. Here’s what we’ve achieved in the last 4 years:
“I started my ECD centre in 2001 with 10 children. My structure was not compliant due to lack of sufficient space for the number of children in my care. However, Kago ya Bana (KYB) came and renovated my centre in 2017 and within two years I received my health permit a requirement for DSD registration. I was able to meet most of the requirements which made the process easier for me. Now I am registered with DSD and have started with the ECD child subsidy funding process. This will make it possible for me to offer benefits for teachers and buy playground toys for the children.”
